An innovative company
Lee Fish Ltd is an innovative company based in Leigh, a small village at Cape
Rodney on the north island of New Zealand. It combines more than 50 years of
fishing experience with extensive know-how and total commitment to quality
and has the technology to guarantee an excellent standard of pure quality.
The company is the largest employer in the village, but unlike most other fishing
companies, Leigh Fisheries does not own any boats. Instead it has independent
boats fishing for them: 30 boats are registered in the port of Leigh and some
70 longline vessels are registered in other ports of the North Island. 60 employees
fish on the 30 boats with two people on each boat. About 30 people work operationally
at «Lee Fish», filleting, sorting and packing the fish.

Premium quality sustainably harvested
Alongside New Zealand's strict quota management system, which prevents
over-fishing, Leigh Fisheries’ fish are caught to order so there's no waste, and juvenile
and older fish are avoided. All of Lee Fish’s products are exported
as Lee Fish, the brand known by fish experts
around the world for its premium quality chilled seafood. Every fish
box carries the Lee Fish logo and the label “Wild, Fresh and Natural” – a
promise we’re fulfilling every day.

In total, there are 53 independent boats fishing for Leigh Fisheries
on a permanent basis. These vessels unload at 14 different ports throughout
the North Island and comprise of the following:
- 12 Lobster (Crayfish) boats.
- 20 Long line (day) boats fishing for Snapper and various bi-catch.
- 6 Danish Purse Seiners fishing for Snapper and John Dory.
- 5 Long line boats fishing for Bluenose and Groper.
- 6 Surface long line Tuna boats fishing for Southern Bluefin Tuna and Swordfish
- 4 Gillnet boats fishing for Mullet and Flounder.
